Smithfield Market – Frozen in Time

I was walking along Holborn Viaduct recently and saw that one of the office buildings had been demolished, revealing a view of Smithfield Market that I hadn’t seen before.

I used to work near the market, when I first moved to London 10 and a half years ago.  The Smithfield Freehouse on Farringdon Road has been vacant and derelict for at least that time.  I took a peek through the gate of one of the derelict buildings. Structurally, it’s still quite in tact.

The top of one of the newer Market buildings has a fake bird of prey kite tied to the domed roof – keeps the pigeons away!
